The magician and the prostitute
Elisabeth Orsini
In 1999, the writer Paulo Coelho was giving a lecture Festival of Literature in Mantua, Italy, when he saw the crowd, a woman holding a sign that read: "Make my dream. Talk to me a minute, please. "After the meeting, exchanged a few words. The woman asked the magician looked at the documents of his book whose topic was the life of Brazilians who, like her, worked as prostitutes in Europe. Paul asked her to leave a copy in the lobby of his hotel. Sonia - a Parana, guitar body, white skin and green eyes - did the deal and thought it would never find it. Later, he received a call from a writer making a date.
- He said she loved my manuscript and asked to take him to the place where I had set much part of the plot, the Langstrasse street which is a subdivision known as Mouth of Garbage, in Zurich, Switzerland - recalls Sonia , 39, who adopted the pseudonym of Brazil Mariana, whose story inspired the "Eleven Minutes" by Paulo Coelho. She says the trip was a success in Langstrasse.
- The girls ran to seek the books that had him in several languages \u200b\u200bto autograph. Paul told them the story of Mary Magdalene of the Bible and signed autographs - he says.
Two years ago, she released "Between the Borders (The manuscript of Sonia)," which tells the true story that inspired "Eleven Minutes" in an edition restricted to 250 copies. Now, the publisher Italy Launches New work in Brazil with the title "The manuscript Sonia's "already in bookstores.
Living today in Italy with her current husband and the son of 18 years, just wants to know Sonia's writing career. His next book, "Garden of cherries, and is ready to be published this year.
- He tells my life after the experience in the world of prostitution, the normal routine of a Brazilian who starts a small Italian town, carrying within it a heavy past.
Excerpt from Sonia, with pseudonym Mariana Brazil
"always hated the word WHORE, I saw that profession from a different angle. For me one term as a prostitute, with all the weight it contains, should be assigned to another type of woman, those who have everything, exemplary members, husbands, generous, faithful, and which are held in high regard by society. Fine ladies and bored that during idle afternoons or on vacation the children, deceive their husbands by the simple desire to have sex with another man. Prostitutes in my thinking, are those who marry for love interest and provoke men playing the game of seduction with married men, carrying within themselves feelings of inferiority. "
'Get out of prostitution for love'
not always the life of Sonia, who adopted the pseudonym of Marian to preserve the family, this was "rosy." She says her childhood was not very different from the majority of poor children in Brazil. The father, a farmer with a drinking problem and her mother, a homemaker, traded by the Parana Sao Paulo in search of a better life. She says she turned to prostitution because they hated the life she led:
- I hate the misery - say, without false modesty, the author who represents the Brain (Brazilian Network of Women Writers) in Italy and participates in meetings to discuss the condition of women in that country. Sonia has
did everything in life and says he knew the world of prostitution only in books. It was in his early teens that she began to be alert to changes in their body and realize that men began to covet it. Since she had a habit of writing journals.
At 18, he met a much older man and had a son, now 18. The age difference ended the relationship and Sonia had to fend for. He worked in factories, shopping malls, beauty salons, restaurants. One day, feeling stuck, recalled that he spoke of places she could get a night which took a whole month to win. He took a taxi and asked the driver to take them to a famous house of call girls who stood on a street in the vicinity of Augusta, in Sao Paulo.
- Everything is a matter of choice and from the moment I walked in that cab and stood on that street with illuminated panels, pretty girls, well dressed and coming out accompanied by elegant men, I realized I was starting a new life.
She remembers well the minutes that stood in front of the white door of the club decide to enter.
- When I entered I saw on the track a man and a woman doing a live sex show. Never seen that and I was shocked. Once finished, I stood staring at the empty stage. Lights went out and kept there, in shock. Soon after a young man appeared and asked me what I was doing there. She looked at me, dressed differently from other girls, and recommended that I return home.
- Until then, I had just had two affairs but had enough strength to look at it and say, "If all women who are here have learned, why can not I learn?".
The teenager, who later became best friends with Sonia, eventually offering him a job as a receptionist, 22h at five in the morning.
- My work was practically be hosting a reception at the entrance to the men. I wore a black suit, sleek and sexy. I accepted the invitation and began to make friends with this girl. After a month I made my first program.
was this same woman who later invited Sonia to work in Italy, where he arrived in 1990, stressing that there could earn more in three months and that Sonia could buy their own home.
- On my first day at work I had sex with 14 men, I bought a wonderful dress. At eight o'clock I was exhausted and could not remember the face of most customers.
In "The manuscript of Sonia," she tells not only her story but that of women who trod the same path. One of the lessons was learned that it takes charge in advance, always:
- should be allowed only after receiving the innermost combined. Before sex, the client is willing to make jewelry, cash, offers worlds. It is time to set the price and take. Then, between the sheets, everything is gone, forget.
The risks are many. The most feared, AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases.
- I was outraged by the lack of awareness of some, who demanded to have sex without a condom. Most were married men who, without the slightest awareness in their own family and exposed to contagion. Not to mention the other customers that, under the guise of respectable people, hiding within yourself defects and vices which I found depressing. I was afraid of such people.
And Sonia, the prostitute, ever felt happy?
- Do not say it's impossible, we are not made of plastic, are made of meat. But it is very rare.
After living as a prostitute for several years, Sonia met a man and ended up doing his other dream: to have a family. Today she lives in a village of about 1,200 inhabitants, near the city of Alessandria, in northern Italy.
- He was born in Italy, has parents, grandparents, and now it all makes part of my life. I left for the sake of prostitution - says.
She says that even fearing to risk his family life, decided to publish the book:
- My goal is to show people who think of entering this world they will find exactly one way trip. If it helps other people not me raping her as I did, so be it done.
