10 questions ... Mariana Brasil - 2005

"10 questions to ..."
Mariana
-Brasil-

Today I have the great pleasure to present a writer Italo-Brazilian well known. This is Sonia CM, aka Mariana Brasil born in 1966 in the State of Paraná in Brazil, has lived with the family of Italian origin in Sao Paulo, the largest city in Latin America, until 1990, when he moved permanently to Italy, and as you tells us: "I left Brazil because I wanted to achieve a better financial condition and finally have my own home. And that's why I live in Italy since 1990. "Today the author is the representative of ReBr (Brazilian Network of Writers in Italy) and is currently dedicated to the study of literary techniques and family. Since childhood he has cultivated the habit of writing diaries, and such caratteristicha has developed and improved in adulthood, protagonizzando the experiences that allowed her to write "The Manuscript of Sonia", a work that inspired the writing of Paulo Coelho's "Eleven Minutes". The famous author has signed the Preface to the Manuscript of Sonia, Brazil. PRESENTATION OF THE 'ORIGINAL EDITION PUBLISHED IN BRAZIL of "Sonia's manuscript", original title "Entre as Fronteiras, Paulo Coelho writes," Take-my dream, talk to me a minute, please-By chance I noticed between the public a huge sign written in Portuguese, while attending a conference in Mantova (IT) in 1999. I thought maybe I could get in touch with whoever was holding that sign, but eventually event, because of the autographs, I could not give her the attention she wanted. However I remember someone telling me something like, "Paulo, when I knew you were in Italy, I had a certainty: I meet you. I would ask you to read my book and tell me honestly how you find it. I thought it was a "signal". No I could give it more attention, but when I arrived at the hotel, a manuscript was waiting for me. I never read the manuscripts, but what I read, the story of a woman, a prostitute who loved much, his experiences, difficulties and adventures. I had the curiosity to know, I really liked his work and how delicate to tell the story of "Mariana", the protagonist of his book. I took his manuscript to the publisher who then published my books in Brazil, but after a few months Sonia received a rejection letter. In 2000, via Zurich (Switzerland), I contacted the author and told her how much I liked his text. Sonia, who had meanwhile established his residence in Italy, took a train and came to meet me in Zurich. I was having dinner with a friend, a writer and reporter for the newspaper Blick, when Sonia arrived, I asked him to take me to the "Langstrasse", the street where she had set part of his book. In Langstrasse in that special night, I met women mothers, daughters, friends, lovers. The strength and determination of women, and this transparency. So I, as my friends were excited about the naturalness of those people and I also had the pleasure to autograph many books in several languages, some of them were picked up at home. I remember that at some point I commented on a dialogue between Mary Magdalene of the Bible and Jesus, where He says: "To whom much love, much will be forgiven." Without realizing it at the time, the 'meeting was also for me a "signal". It was the beginning of the genesis of my book "Eleven Minutes, because then I told the story of that night to another journalist who published an article illustrée the journal and that led to my meeting with Mary, the protagonist of my book, during an autograph session in Geneva. Sonia through "Mariana", presents in this book, with an engaging realism, sweet but disturbing, a world seen, heard and experienced from within. His words speak floor, penetrating us. Intimate, intense and engaging, can bring us at that 'hell is the search for oneself but also to the paradise of' encounter with love (always in search of eternal female origin). Now, with great pleasure, I give the word to "Mariana Brasil." (Paulo Coelho, July 2003) and with the same pleasure I'll leave the word ... I also

1 - Mariana Hello, nice to meet you and to do the best I can not wait to receive your book that I know you just made and for that I thank you very much. And it is from your book that I would start to talk a little 'you through the 10 questions that follow.

What has become the Italian version of the subtitle, "Between the Borders" and "The manuscript of Sonia," I clearly have a double meaning: can you explain that? Which borders in your book?

.... Monica Hello, good morning to you too. "Between the Borders" really refers not only to territorial boundaries, but also to the interior, the limit, the extent to which human beings can get in search of its identity without losing the true meaning and values of existence and life .

Then I think, we are always in "our borders" ... .. one of the choices in every moment of our lives ...

2 - On a "reflection", you do the same about your book, we read: "A number of facts, sometimes difficult and embarrassing, people, emotions, and hope for better days, I was offered the raw material to conceive of "Mariana," a Brazilian prostitute who managed to overcome his pain, preserving its "sacred space", his faith in life, addressing the differences of its existence without losing the tenderness, recognizing the meaning of compassion . In the path of Mariana and her companions in the world of prostitution in Europe and Brazil in the 90s, the reader can feel the experience of dreams, fears, disappointments, joy and sadness. To write "The Manuscript of Sonia" was necessary to hear the testimony and write life stories of people from different social classes. It is not trivial analysis, much less a description of the vulgar world of prostitution. For me, the realization of this book is the amount, redemption, freedom purchased by my truth, one way to deal with my ghosts, my past, consciousness and transformation into someone who loves you and there is now a story printed in my own skin in the passing of my life. "Today you can say that I really succeeded with this goal in your book that you had set for itself: to acquaint the reader with a hot reality and confront the ghosts of your past?

Monia ... ... .. you know in Brazil as a child I often heard phrase: "God writes the right for crooked lines," perhaps you say even here in Italy, is not it?

... And I'm the living proof of that sentence ....

In 1990 when I arrived in Italy for the first time, I began to record all my emotions in a diary, was the way I found to keep them shiny, not allowing me to not understand what was happening in my nights and my life, was my best friend, also wrote in that diary of the stories I felt terrible, the worst times of my

... Everything is over ...

And in 1999 I met "Paulo Coelho" in Mantova Literary Festival, presented the my manuscript and asked him to read it, with the intention of hearing sincere opinion of a wise man to judge for what he wrote.

of this meeting and then another with "Paulo Coelho" came the genesis of his latest bestseller "eleven minutes", which is a wonderful book, very well written in my opinion and according to many .... The proof is the number of copies already sold.

fact is that "eleven minutes" reflects one side of the world of prostitution: the view that the perspective of a man. ... Paulo's book "eleven minutes" I find my emotions, but lacks the other side of this Actually, that's true, what encouraged me to turn my dear diary into a book, with the objective to be an 'alert' and to help other women like me and not only, but also to stimulate a debate on the real needs of people, for those who do not know what it is in practice play as a "prostitute" and prefer to ignore it ... the world that I knew personally and for this reason it is faithful to reality ... .. responding to your question ... that diary was printed in my skin and in my soul ... so I can say: do not get out unscathed from this experience.

I am responsible for my actions and the things I wrote, I had to let all those people who so loved the book "eleven minutes" to know And the truth ... the truth in the world of prostitution ... I think ... it is certainly rare in this business that a story begins "once upon a time ... .. and ending ... ... and they lived happily ever after .... How much did you

my ghosts, they all fight like every day of my life because I'm alive and ....

"I'm still among the borders."

3 - In a review Isabella Bianchini explains: "I found myself face to face with what I thought was the" character "rather than in front of me was a simple girl. I have listened carefully and felt his emotions. His initial shaking has now turned into a long stream of words almost a relief, as if until that moment had kept that secret for so long that it was time to emerge. Through his words, listen to the word heart, the word love, and realize who firmly believes that the destiny has given a chance. He tells his story, said to be the protagonist of his book and says that the desperation has led her to lose the way and end up in prostitution. Only the inner strength and belief in divine power will give you the courage to change its course. His book is an act of courage. Shows that all life may feel weak and no one should be judged but only understood. "Do you agree with Isabella?

I really liked the review that did Isabella and "compliments to his sensibility." Definitely my faith in a force "Higher and Divine" has helped me to transform my life story and to make my experience in the world of prostitution as a book that can and has already helped many people, myself in the front row.

4 - Wishing you the reader a "good read" add: "I would like to wish you a good read, but I would also propose and stimulate reflection on the true position of women who by choice or fate to be found in this life, contact with the bias and prejudice, but above all on the real needs of people that feed this reality. Now let Mariana and her feminine soul speak to the reader, through his voice and his words, whispering, the reader will, intimate, intense, captivating and capable of carrying its own hell and heaven of soul searching ' encounter with love. "This is what we rightly say to the reader. What would you say to those women themselves rather than by choice or requirement can still be found in contempt for Langstrasse, or any other street in the world?

To have the courage to reflect and reassess their lives.

But above all to be honest with themselves and believe that we can change everything if you really want, we have the right to happiness, respect ... maybe this is our real mission in life.

And one more reason to say ... for a woman who managed to dress the loaves with a prostitute, and that only they can understand it, certainly can wear any other cloth in life.

5 - You have decided to publish your book after an event you think is extraordinary and you very kindly tell us: "How many people around the world, so I was a fan of Paulo Coelho was in this spirit that I attended the Festival of Literature in Mantua in the year 1999, two years after finishing my book. The guest of honor was the very famous Brazilian writer. I presented the audience with a sign in his hands that lifted up so that he could read it. It said, in Portuguese: "my dream, TALK TO ME A MINUTE, PLEASE." The only intention was to ask him just read my book and I would provide an honest opinion. Our first meeting lasted really "A" minute, long enough to give me the address of his hotel for you to leave a copy of the manuscript at the reception. And surprisingly it was read. After several months I received a call praising the author's manuscript. He was Zurich, Switzerland, and invited me to a meeting. I saw him with great joy. When I arrived, I was having dinner with Monica, a reporter for the newspaper Blick, and with a writer friend of his. He asked me to wait and when I had finished dinner offered to take him on the street where I set my book. I confess I was a very special night. Paulo Coelho is what his two friends were very excited about seeing the strength, the determination to the naturalness of women, mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and lovers. As Paulo Coelho says in the preface of my book, it was with great pleasure that several of his autographed books in different languages that some of these women had brought from their homes. I remember at one point made a comment on a song the Bible, the encounter between Jesus and Mary Magdalene, which states: Whoever loves much, much will be forgiven. "Sometimes an extraordinary and unexpected encounter can change your life for you has changed?

Quell 'meeting has certainly changed my life, I had to wait almost four years since the end of 1999 to 2003 when Paulo Coelho has published "eleven minutes", which refers to the final note in the manuscript. I found myself in front of my borders again

Leave the past where it was or publish the original manuscript?

I decided to get involved once again and may it all I had finally conquered. A life quiet, a family ... but on balance I felt with myself not to take that answer only to me and so I communicated to Paul by e-mail my decision to publish my manuscript, I thanked him for the compliment that he wrote in the final note of "eleven minutes".

These facts have given me the courage to publish my story.

He offered me the show, I'll always be grateful for this, as I said before ... God writes the right even in crooked lines ...

Although this presentation for reasons "his" contract with her publishers in Italy is not contained in the Italian edition, for Brazil but he supported me very far.

"Sonia's manuscript" was not born to stay in my drawer.

6 - And thanks to this meeting and this very special night, comes "the genesis" of "Eleven Minutes". So much so that the final note of the book, Coelho thank you and the other prostitutes. How does it feel to be, and in just 11 minutes, a sign that you've hit a lot, the inspiration of a writer so loved the world?

I sincerely believe in a divine plan and that some things are already designed for us, as my meeting with Paulo Coelho, as well as "eleven minutes" should be written by a great writer that "the manuscript of Sonia" had this effect.

Musa? I do not feel anything for a muse, I was clear with that 'man, I did not use masks and perhaps it was precisely this transparency that hit him.

7 - And after this meeting and the interest of Paulo Coelho's "The manuscript of Sonia" is immediately sent to many publishers in Brazil, but none found the story quite interesting. Then in 1999 one of those angels that you say you often hear at your side once again gives you a hand! That 's right?

Truly "Sonia's manuscript was" ready of 1997 when I recorded in Brazil, I tried to send the text to publishers and many times came back to me unopened envelope with a stamp that said that did not care, this left me very sad, and so in 1999 I knew Paulo Coelho, who was at Mantua Festival of Literature ... the rest of this story is so imprinted in "eleven minutes" as in "Manuscript of Sonia ...

I believe in angels ... The story of my life were always present, to time in the form of friends, husbands, daughters ... but have always been and still are ...

8 - How do we tell yourself over this meeting with Paulo Coelho to have been a "signal" for you, it is also the driving force that, you say: "I needed to have the courage to publish my book, to realize my dream. With the support of the mass media, but especially with the preface signed by Paulo Coelho in first person (I'll always be grateful for that) I published in Brazil in September 2003-Sonia-The Manuscript "And speaking of Mass Media and attention that the press has given you, here in Italy June 23, 2004 "The manuscript of Sonia" was presented at the Maurizio Costanzo Show. How do you feel after being kidnapped by this sudden flurry of excitement, which made the story of Sonia, your story, known to the public and more?

It makes me think a lot, it's weird, in the past I used my body because I had a personal goal and a goal to achieve economic ... life is a circle really, now I'm still using my image to another personal goal: publishing my past I can help other women not to violate their essence, their soul ... If my design was so, so it will be done ....

"the manuscript of Sonia," Mariana, the protagonist, the writer, Sonia real one ... I live together in peace ... so I have always .... In my borders to deal with every day my dear ghosts, my past, my fears. And in the end I realize: who does not?

9 - to describe your book printing uses the following phrases: "A literary event born from a diary", "Your book was an instant best-seller"; "The writer Paulo Coelho has been struck authenticity of the story, "" Mariana's book recounts the journey in the extreme world of prostitution, "" His book is an act of courage, "" A book that is essentially the diary of a prostitute, now in Italy to keep his family. " Do you agree with these journalistic license? As it reflects you?

I am aware that the link with Paulo Coelho and the curiosity of knowing what was in the original manuscript that inspired a famous writer has helped me so much to have this support of printing and are happy with this, the press has an important role in this project, so I can reach my ultimate goal and ensure that my voice and my message will reach many. I was lucky even to be published in Italy for a serious and responsible publishing house, (www.italianuova.com), which is a wonderful cultural exchange between Brazil and Italy published in Brazil in Italy and Italian writers important Brazilian writers, but mainly because she believed in my book and my PROJECT.

Now I hope to soon see this story in film, so I will have reached an even wider audience ...

10 - Last, classic, now inevitable question, I post as always tithe, because it means for me to draw a continuous line of views between all the various authors interviewed, what would you recommend to a beginner who has yet to cross the threshold of world literature, the Publications, the print media, critical reviews, awards important?

is all new to me, I'm beginning to understand now the "literary world", I write because I like it, transports me, for this writer does not exist "alone", you can love, dream, give birth, even kill, you can have your own world and only .... It is beautiful!

In practice it is a stone road, there are very few writers who manage to survive of his books, there are still many problems to be addressed before we see his "son" on the shelves of libraries, the most serious in my opinion is the distribution, I receive many e-mails from different parts of Italy on my site www.marianabrasil.com.br who seek and ask for my book because they can not find it in bookstores.

I thought the world of prostitution was the most complicated and that there could be worse, but now I came to the conclusion that all things are similar between them, with their rules and their compromises. I was wrong.

I would say something very important to me ...: Always be aware of and responsible for what you write, a book can save a life.

Continue to write.

Thanks Monica and Charles T.

A kiss and a smile ...

The magician and the prostitute

Elisabeth Orsini

In 1999, the writer Paulo Coelho was giving a lecture Festival of Literature in Mantua, Italy, when he saw the crowd, a woman holding a sign that read: "Make my dream. Talk to me a minute, please. "After the meeting, exchanged a few words. The woman asked the magician looked at the documents of his book whose topic was the life of Brazilians who, like her, worked as prostitutes in Europe. Paul asked her to leave a copy in the lobby of his hotel. Sonia - a Parana, guitar body, white skin and green eyes - did the deal and thought it would never find it. Later, he received a call from a writer making a date.

- He said she loved my manuscript and asked to take him to the place where I had set much part of the plot, the Langstrasse street which is a subdivision known as Mouth of Garbage, in Zurich, Switzerland - recalls Sonia , 39, who adopted the pseudonym of Brazil Mariana, whose story inspired the "Eleven Minutes" by Paulo Coelho. She says the trip was a success in Langstrasse.

- The girls ran to seek the books that had him in several languages to autograph. Paul told them the story of Mary Magdalene of the Bible and signed autographs - he says.

Two years ago, she released "Between the Borders (The manuscript of Sonia)," which tells the true story that inspired "Eleven Minutes" in an edition restricted to 250 copies. Now, the publisher Italy Launches New work in Brazil with the title "The manuscript Sonia's "already in bookstores.

Living today in Italy with her current husband and the son of 18 years, just wants to know Sonia's writing career. His next book, "Garden of cherries, and is ready to be published this year.

- He tells my life after the experience in the world of prostitution, the normal routine of a Brazilian who starts a small Italian town, carrying within it a heavy past.

Excerpt from Sonia, with pseudonym Mariana Brazil

"always hated the word WHORE, I saw that profession from a different angle. For me one term as a prostitute, with all the weight it contains, should be assigned to another type of woman, those who have everything, exemplary members, husbands, generous, faithful, and which are held in high regard by society. Fine ladies and bored that during idle afternoons or on vacation the children, deceive their husbands by the simple desire to have sex with another man. Prostitutes in my thinking, are those who marry for love interest and provoke men playing the game of seduction with married men, carrying within themselves feelings of inferiority. "

'Get out of prostitution for love'

not always the life of Sonia, who adopted the pseudonym of Marian to preserve the family, this was "rosy." She says her childhood was not very different from the majority of poor children in Brazil. The father, a farmer with a drinking problem and her mother, a homemaker, traded by the Parana Sao Paulo in search of a better life. She says she turned to prostitution because they hated the life she led:

- I hate the misery - say, without false modesty, the author who represents the Brain (Brazilian Network of Women Writers) in Italy and participates in meetings to discuss the condition of women in that country. Sonia has

did everything in life and says he knew the world of prostitution only in books. It was in his early teens that she began to be alert to changes in their body and realize that men began to covet it. Since she had a habit of writing journals.

At 18, he met a much older man and had a son, now 18. The age difference ended the relationship and Sonia had to fend for. He worked in factories, shopping malls, beauty salons, restaurants. One day, feeling stuck, recalled that he spoke of places she could get a night which took a whole month to win. He took a taxi and asked the driver to take them to a famous house of call girls who stood on a street in the vicinity of Augusta, in Sao Paulo.

- Everything is a matter of choice and from the moment I walked in that cab and stood on that street with illuminated panels, pretty girls, well dressed and coming out accompanied by elegant men, I realized I was starting a new life.

She remembers well the minutes that stood in front of the white door of the club decide to enter.

- When I entered I saw on the track a man and a woman doing a live sex show. Never seen that and I was shocked. Once finished, I stood staring at the empty stage. Lights went out and kept there, in shock. Soon after a young man appeared and asked me what I was doing there. She looked at me, dressed differently from other girls, and recommended that I return home.

- Until then, I had just had two affairs but had enough strength to look at it and say, "If all women who are here have learned, why can not I learn?".

The teenager, who later became best friends with Sonia, eventually offering him a job as a receptionist, 22h at five in the morning.

- My work was practically be hosting a reception at the entrance to the men. I wore a black suit, sleek and sexy. I accepted the invitation and began to make friends with this girl. After a month I made my first program.

was this same woman who later invited Sonia to work in Italy, where he arrived in 1990, stressing that there could earn more in three months and that Sonia could buy their own home.

- On my first day at work I had sex with 14 men, I bought a wonderful dress. At eight o'clock I was exhausted and could not remember the face of most customers.

In "The manuscript of Sonia," she tells not only her story but that of women who trod the same path. One of the lessons was learned that it takes charge in advance, always:

- should be allowed only after receiving the innermost combined. Before sex, the client is willing to make jewelry, cash, offers worlds. It is time to set the price and take. Then, between the sheets, everything is gone, forget.

The risks are many. The most feared, AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases.

- I was outraged by the lack of awareness of some, who demanded to have sex without a condom. Most were married men who, without the slightest awareness in their own family and exposed to contagion. Not to mention the other customers that, under the guise of respectable people, hiding within yourself defects and vices which I found depressing. I was afraid of such people.

And Sonia, the prostitute, ever felt happy?

- Do not say it's impossible, we are not made of plastic, are made of meat. But it is very rare.

After living as a prostitute for several years, Sonia met a man and ended up doing his other dream: to have a family. Today she lives in a village of about 1,200 inhabitants, near the city of Alessandria, in northern Italy.

- He was born in Italy, has parents, grandparents, and now it all makes part of my life. I left for the sake of prostitution - says.

She says that even fearing to risk his family life, decided to publish the book:

- My goal is to show people who think of entering this world they will find exactly one way trip. If it helps other people not me raping her as I did, so be it done.

Mariana Brasil - Sonia's manuscript -

with great pleasure I present "The Manuscript of Sonia." A series of facts, sometimes difficult and embarrassing, people, emotions, and hope for better days, they offered me the "tools" to conceive "Mariana," a Brazilian prostitute which managed to overcome his pain, preserving its "sacred space", his faith in life, addressing the differences of its existence without losing the tenderness, the sense of recognizing compassione.Nel path Mariana and her companions in the world prostitution in Europe and Brazil in the 90s, the reader can feel the experience of dreams, fears, disappointments, joy and tristezza.Per write "The Manuscript of Sonia" I collected the testimonies important to develop carefully the story of men and women from different social classes. It is not trivial analysis, much less a description of the vulgar world of prostituzione.Per me, the realization of this book is the amount, redemption, freedom purchased by my truth, one way to deal with my ghosts, my past, consciousness and the transformation that exists today and someone you love, a story imprinted on my skin in spending my vita.Ho decided to publish my manuscript after an event straordinario.Come many people around the world, so I was a fan of Paulo Coelho edema was in this spirit that I attended the Festival of Literature in Mantua in 1999, two years after finishing my book. The guest of honor was the very famous writer brasiliano.Mi presented the audience with a sign in his hands that lifted up so that he could read it. It read, in Portuguese: "my dream, TALK TO ME A MINUTE, PLEASE." The only intention was to ask him just read my book and I would provide an honest opinion. Our first meeting lasted really "A" minute, long enough to give me the address of his hotel for you to leave a copy of the manuscript at the reception. And surprisingly it was read. After several months I received a call praising the author's manuscript. It was in Zurich, Switzerland, and invited me to a meeting. I saw him with great joy. When I arrived, I was having dinner with Monica, a reporter for the newspaper Blick, and with a writer friend of his. He asked me to wait, and when finished dinner, I proposed to accompany on that road where I had set my book. I confess I was a very special night. Paulo Coelho is what his two friends were very excited about seeing the strength, the determination to the naturalness of women, mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and lovers. As Paulo Coelho writes in the preface of my book, at that time delighted autographed his books in different languages that some of these women had brought from their homes. I remember that at one point, said a phrase from the Bible, the encounter between Jesus and Mary Magdalene, which states: "Whoever loves much, much will be forgiven." Thanks to our very special meeting that night, comes the "genesis of Eleven Minutes." In the final note of His book, thanks Sonia Coelho (my first name), my manuscript and some prostitutes who, after reading an article in the journal Ilustrée on my history with the author, pay homage to him on his way to Geneva to attend a session of his autographs. If this meeting was a "sign" of fate, it certainly has awakened in me the urge, that perhaps I needed to have the courage to publish my book and realize my dream. With the support of the mass media, especially with a preface signed by Paulo Coelho in first person (I'll always be grateful to him) I have published in Brazil in September 2003 "The Manuscript of Sonia." While the illustrious preface can not be published edition in Italian, holding in his hands this book for me is already an achievement but also a way to allow many people to know the true reality that revolves around the world view of prostitution from a very particular and personal : dentro.Vorrei to wish her a good read, but I would also propose and stimulate reflection on the true position of women, by choice or fate, they find themselves in this life in contact with the bias and prejudice, especially on the real needs of the men who feed this realtà.Ora leave that Mariana and her feminine soul speak to the reader, through his voice and his words, whispering, will enter the heart, intimate, intense, captivating and that will carry us into the hell of our own soul searching and the paradise of the encounter with love. This story combines fact and fiction, in order to preserve the identity of those who have offered their testimonies and respect of the places, scenes of the narrative. Therefore do not see anything beyond the coincidences in reference to possible similarities with people or places reali.Concludo thanking all those people who made this work possible, signed with the pseudonym that one day I chose as a writer but also as Sonia, the real one, and as Mariana, the star of this trip ... so I always have.

Mariana Brasil
