Tolkien The Tolkien Toast New Year

Ok, let's face it. E 'legitimate for someone familiar with the Star Wars Toast. And the Pirate Toast . There's even the 'Toast RSS . But the Tolkien Toast? For those who are lost on occasion, some light is given here :

"On the 3 rd January 1892 JRR Tolkien Was Born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. To celebrate this event, on this day Each year Tolkien fans around the world are invited to raise a glass and toast the birthday of this much loved author.

The toast is "The Professor".

For those unfamiliar with British toast-drinking ceremonies:

To make the Birthday Toast, you stand, raise a glass of your choice of drink (not necessarily alcoholic), and say the words 'The Professor' before taking a sip (or swig, if that's more appropriate for your drink). Sit and enjoy the rest of your drink.»

E ovviamente:

«The organisers do not condone drinking alcohol if it endangers the health or safety of the drinker or others, or contravenes the law.»

Lungi da noi, gemellati Cotton, deprecare una tradizione che implichi il bere. E tuttavia non posso fare a meno di wonder if the ' Ente Nazionale Francesco Petrarca you find yourself doing the same thing on July 20. Or if the Italian Dante Society do something on ... the ... August 25 for her non-birthday. And I can not help but wonder, as usual, if the past and present resistance opposed to recognition as the author of Tolkien's literature does not result in full-blown, rather than the nature of his writings, the assumption of bad PR.

To the Professor!

Lord of the Rings? This question appears simple, JRR Tolkien said in a surprising way: "Neither the power or domination are the very core of my story [...] The central theme for me is about something much more difficult and eternal: death and immortality "(Letter No. 186).
Despite this clear indication, the topics are in fact neglected by most researchers also accredited. Hard to say This situation is one of the many effects of the "forbidden death" mentioned in his Aries History of Death in the West: it is in any event a significant failing in the study of the Oxford professor, this book would help to fill.
